Review the information related to planning and decision making in health care organizations presented in the textbook, Leadership Roles and Management Functions in Nursing: Theory and Application. Consider how planning and decision making relate to an organization’s mission, vision, and values, as well as its culture and its climate.
Familiarize yourself with the mission, vision, and values of your organization or one with which you are familiar. Consider how the statements and actions of leaders and others within the organization support or demonstrate the organizational mission, vision, and values. In addition, note any apparent discrepancies between word and deed. Think about how this translates into expectations for direct service providers. Note any data or artifacts that seem to indicate whether behaviors within the organization are congruent with its mission, vision, and values.
Begin to examine and reflect on the culture and climate of the organization. How do culture and climate differ?
Why is it important for you, as a master’s-prepared nurse leader, to be cognizant of these matters?

My organization’s (Uvalde Memorial Hospital – UMH) mission is to heal the persons it serves by offering health care that is both compassionate and of high quality. Its vision is to offer care choices to the persons it serves through availing the best care, staff, and the healthiest community. Its specific values include compassion, accessibility, integrity, stewardship, and excellence (Uvalde Memorial Hospital, 2018). A review of the organization’s mission, vision and values reveals that its core intention is to provide its clients with compassionate and high-quality health care that engages the best staff and care to realize the healthiest community. The organization has lived up to this intentions by employing competent and qualified staff who work with the latest medical technologies to facilitate care delivery. In fact, the organization encourages its personnel to pursue further education through incentives such as promotion at work and paid leave to attend educational activities. In this respect, the organization’s actions and leadership support its mission, vision and values statements.
Organization culture refers to the system of shared and validated assumptions that the organization developed, discovered and invented to address its professional needs both in the internal and external environments. It is typically transmitted to new personnel as the valid strategy for feeling about, thinking about and perceiving problems they may face within the professional environment. As such, it includes the perspectives, sense-making, traditions, routines, norms, values and beliefs that the organization holds true and are difficult to change (Marquis & Huston, 2017). On the other hand, organization climate is the atmosphere, feeling and sense that the organization exhibits. In fact, it can be construed as the attitudes and perceptions an individual would develop upon coming into contact with the organization. Climate can easily be changed through simple actions such as changing the climate (Marquis & Huston, 2017). Information about organization culture and climate is important to leaders because it can be manipulated to influence how people perceive, think about and interpret the organization’s activities, as well as how they react to incidents and events (Cherry & Jacobs, 2013).Nursing leadership Assignment Essay
