What is Nonasthmatic eosinophil bronchitis (NEB)?
Nonasthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis (NEB) is a condition that causes a chronic cough with 10% to 30% of the patients with chronic cough having NEB. In fact, the condition is characterized by inflammation of the eosinophilic airway thereby making it comparable to asthma that has similar characterization. Despite the similarity, asthma differs from NEB by virtue of the fact that asthma caused hyper-responsiveness in the airways and limited variable airflow. In addition to the structural differences, the two conditions have functional differences. This is noted in the mast cells localization in the airway walls in which case NEB presents epithelial infiltration while asthma presents smooth muscle infiltration (Hasleton & Flieder, 2013). In this respect, NEB is an inflammation of the airway that causes chronic cough resultant from smooth muscle infiltration without hyper-responsiveness or limited variable airflow.

What medications are used to treat NEB and how do they get diagnosed.
Prior to treatment, a confirmatory diagnosis must first be conducted. The diagnosis would first entail determining that the eosinophilic airway is inflamed. This occurs through laboratory analysis of sputum after determining that the chronic cough is not caused by other common conditions. A positive laboratory result is confirmed through assessment of lung function as well as radiologic and clinical examinations. Once the diagnosis for NEB is confirmed, the patient is subjected to treatment using inhaled corticosteroids with the treatment duration and dosage being dependent on the patient demographics that include age, gender, progression of the ailment and its presentation that could either be persistent, episodic or transient. Other than inhaled corticosteroids, patients can also be treated using prednisone. This is particularly true for patients with a persistent form of the condition who would require prednisone treatment for the long-term (Buttaro et al., 2013) Nonasthmatic Eosinophil Bronchitis Paper.
Patient education in preventing NEB.
Patient education would first emphasize that the patient should comply with the medication to avoid further complications. In addition, smoking patients should avoid the habit. Besides that, obese patients should achieve healthy weights. Also, the patients should avoid sinusitis, reflux and environmental allergens such as exposure to pets (Silvestri & Weinberger, 2018).
