Introduction to the Proposed Research Synthesis must include:
a) Introduction to the problem: Go from broad to specific
The health care system faces significant nursing workforce challenges in the form of supply of nursing services that does not meet the rising demand. The situation is brought into focus by the existing demographics show that the nursing workforce is aging even as the expectations of patients and other stakeholders increase along with the rising cost of medical services and technologies. To be more precise, the nursing profession has reported poor retention rates that are exacerbated by an aging workforce thereby painting an unfavorable picture of the supply and demand mechanics. Other than the mentioned factors, the issue is also influenced by the distribution of nursing workforce within the country, especially along geographies the disfavor rural and remote locations, and care for mental and aged patients that is considered very demanding (Hall, 2013). As such, there is a need to improve the management of the nurses’ workforce with the focus being on improved retention so that nursing personnel are supported to keep practicing within the healthcare profession in the country.

The proposed study anticipates that three strategies would improve the retention of nursing personnel in the country. The first strategy would entail building the nurses’ capacity for leadership so that they are more involved in decision making and allowed to explore the problems affecting them in the workplace. The second strategy entails providing career support and planning so that younger nurses are able to replace their aged counterparts going into retirement. The final strategy entails justifying nursing requirements based on need and offering commensurate compensation (Yu & Cable, 2013). Health Care Problem Proposed Research
