Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Response to ADHD paper

In my opinion, this is a good presentation on attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The author addresses the key features of the condition showing that adequate research was conducted. This is clearly seen in the logical progression of ideas from definition to symptoms, pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment. Another key feature is that the diagnosis noted that although the condition presents as inattentiveness, it is accompanied by hyperactivity and impulsivity that occur for at least six months. Besides that, the paper makes adequate use of references when mentions facts that are not common knowledge. For instance, making a citation when mentioning that only 60% of monozygotic twins reports concordance for positive ADHD diagnosis. In this respect, the paper has been well structured and referenced to include the required information. Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Still, there are aspects that could have been included to make the paper more comprehensive since some important information was left out. Firstly, the paper should have mentioned that although the condition is typically reported in children, there are cases of adults being diagnosed with the condition when a diagnosis was not conducted in childhood (Stahl, 2014). Secondly, it should have indicated that it is a heritable neuro-developmental disorder in as much as 75% of the cases (Thissen et al., 2014). Thirdly, although there is a clear demarcation of paragraphs and progression of ideas, the paper lacks a conclusion that leaves readers in doubt about the paper’s stand. In conclusion, I must point out that the paper is well written. The mentioned facts been referenced, the information structured to be informative with evidence of a clear progression of ideas and extensive research. Still, there is some missing that should be included along with a conclusion. Addressing the mentioned factors would make the paper more comprehensive and acceptable to readers.
