Assessing Context and Culture Essay

Child Obesity is a condition that signifies that a child has an excessive accumulation of fats according to Assari, Caldwell, and Zimmerman, (2015). It can be caused by psychological, economic, social, genetic and cultural factors. This paper demonstrates how context and culture affect the implementation of evidence with childhood obesity. Context and Cultural Factors

When the quantity of calories consumed exceed the burnt calories, one is said to be obese. The societal norms of where one lives dictate a child’s livelihood. As a matter of fact, they even dictate the quantity and quality of food we consume (Shugart, 2016).

Kids raised in a set up where people live far away from shopping centers tend to eat more of canned and refrigerated foods which are high in calories. Similarly, people living in very cold areas eat a lot and do minimal or no exercise. They are therefore highly susceptible to obesity.

Peer pressure is a leading cause of influence in consumables. Being around people who take lots of junk food might cause a kid to cave-in to the pressure of consuming the same. Assessing Context and Culture Essay

On the other hand, our cultural way of life confines us to behave in certain ways. They mold our eating habits, cooking, outdoor activities, and morals. In most cultures, men group outdoors to herd, bond and do other outdoor activities together. They group in the evening for drinks but can’t share personal stresses.

In the same communities, women group together to cook, clean and gossip about their personal problems. As result, they end up relieving personal stress. Stress might cause people to eat a lot or have hormonal imbalance according to Shloim, Edelson, Martin, and Hetherington, (2015). In both cases, the level of calories intake is on the rise increasing the chance of obesity.

The context and culture of a child highly affects their well-being given that they learn by imitating. Most of the time, traits and habits got from childhood are carried through to their adult life.
