Modern diagnosis antimicrobial agents have proved an essential part of the diagnosis of viral and bacterial infection. Their ability to suppress the division of multiplication of the microorganism has resulted in the control of many microorganism cased infection. Antimicrobial agents are classified based on the mode of action on either the microorganism or any other protein cell. It gives such different types of antimicrobial agents such as protein biosynthesis inhibitors (macrolides, tetracycline’s), DNA inhibitors (4-quinolones) and the RNA inhibitor (rifampicin) (Talaro, 2018).

Bactria can be grouped into two helpful and harmful bacteria. Useful bacteria help in the digestion while the harmful bacteria cause infection in the human body (Schnee, 2013). Bacteria are a single-celled microorganism that can live independently in a wide range of environment while the virus is deadly and depend wholly on the host for the survival. The causative agent and response to the antibiotic are the significant difference between bacterial and viral infection. The virus is responsible for the viral infection while bacteria are associated with the bacterial infection. The viral disease is untreatable by the use of antibiotics physicians only control the division of the cell while the use of the right medicine can effectively treat bacteria. However inappropriate treatment of the bacterial infection results in the development of bacterial resistant infections (Schnee, 2013).

In many cases, the bacteria and virus infection have the same mode of manifestation. Wrong identification means that there will be an erroneous administration of the antimicrobial agent which will fail to achieve its objective of reduction in the spread of the infection caused by either bacteria or virus (Arnold, 2017). Specific antibiotic and antiviral drugs act on a given species or type of virus hence the wrong choice means there will be no effect on the virus or bacteria as it will continue the destruction of the various organs of the body. Bacteria and the virus can cause diseases like pneumonia, diarrhea, and meningitis (Rivière, 2012). The similarity in the mode of the infection and the effect on the person makes it hard to determine the primary cause of the disease by a simple test. A detailed analysis is needed to establish the real cause of the infection.
